I couldn’t have asked for a better opportunity than the Fulbright-Millennial Train Project, which combines my love of traveling and what I am really passionate about: women in technology. I am very fortunate and honored to be one of the six Fulbrighters on this year’s Millennial Trains Project, joining other Millennial world-changers on board. I was so excited and couldn’t wait for this day to come.
To kick off my Fulbright-MTP project, I needed to arrange interviews with local women in technology. Therefore, I really had to push myself out of my comfort zone to make it happen. I started contacting women in tech organizations in Los Angeles, Austin, San Antonio, New Orleans, Atlanta, and Washington DC. At first, I was so nervous and overwhelmed since I didn’t receive any replies.
Then, I joined the MTP Facebook group and connected with some other participants. A few MTP Millennials, even prior to meeting me, helped me get in touch with amazing tech women in each city through their connections. I realized that networking is very powerful in building a stronger and bigger community. I was so motivated after talking to them. They were, and are, very supportive and helpful. As inspiring as they are, I truly believe their stories will influence many other women and girls.
Finally, the wait was over. I arrived safely in Los Angeles, California. The day was bright and the weather was perfect. The first meeting with MTP members at the Ace Hotel Theatre in downtown Los Angeles was great. The dinner was amazing. Tacos and burritos were delicious. A view of Downtown Los Angeles at night from the rooftop was breathtaking. What a wonderful day in Los Angeles!
